Iona Craig reports from Yemen’s capital Sanaa, where she has witnessed appalling brutality towards anti-government protesters. On Friday, 52 people were shot dead by snipers and since then calls for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down have intensified. Today, the President made a defiant speech, blaming a ‘foreign plot’ for the demonstrations, but in reality his days as leader of the troubled country are now numbered.
